The Fall season is just around the corner, which means, yes, lovely lattes and sweaters return, but ultimately; cooler weather. For most of us, temperatures are dropping, and cooler air is notorious for drying out our strands. Thankfully, mayonnaise (banisher of all dryness) is here to help us make a super easy deep conditioner for moisture retention using only 2 additional ingredients that are probably already in your kitchen as we speak! Mayonnaise makes a great treatment for hair, some of its benefits include:
+ Rich content of amino acids for strengthening & conditioning hair
+ Contains nourishing oils
+ De-frizzes & softens strands
+ Encourages curl clumping and shine
How to do a DIY Mayonnaise Deep Conditioner for Dry Natural Hair:
What You’ll Need:
¾ Cup of Mayonnaise
Star of the show
1 tbsp of Honey
- It’s a humectant, attracting and helping to maintain moisture in the hair by helping to hold onto water molecules in the air
- Helps prevent split ends
- Helps soften hair
1 tbsp of Olive Oil
- Contains anti-inflammatory properties that promote scalp health
- Contains nutrients like vitamin E which promotes hair growth
- Improves manageability, strength, & shine
+ Add the mayonnaise, honey, & olive oil into a bowl, & mix thoroughly. Store in the fridge until intended use.
+ Apply the mayonnaise deep conditioner to freshly cleansed, damp hair from root to end, the way you would a conditioner. I like to do this following up my DIY clay wash. Focus on the ends as they are the oldest part of your hair, work in sections if needed!
+ Cover hair with plastic bag/cap & let sit for 30 minutes to an hour. You can use a hooded dryer or steamer for extra penetration, or just let the heat from your head do all the work. Rinse and proceed to style as desired.
This has recently become my favorite deep conditioner, my strands love it, & so does my wallet! I love this DIY because it’s easy, leaves my hair feeling soft, moisturized and best of all, makes my curls pop!
